Product Features

  • High quality 6mm silver mirror to EU standards that can be cut to size, safety backed, polished, drilled and cut out for sockets etc

  • If fitting with adhesive do not choose safety backing as it will not fix the mirror to the wall. Only use recognised mirror adhesive as other adhesive may deteriorate the mirror.

  • Also available as standard size gym mirrors - 6ft x 3ft, 6ft x 4ft, 7ft x 4ft and 8ft x 4ft.

We supply silver mirror in two guages or thickness – 4mm and 6mm.There is no legislation governing the guage to use but we advise you follow our recommendations. For commercial use we recommend 6mm mirror with safety backing film. 6mm mirror is stronger than 4mm and therefore is less likely to damage in a potentially more challenging environment. In addition, 6mm mirror is not prone to "flex" which could cause distortion in the reflection when mirrors are adhered to an uneven surface. 6mm mirror can be fitted with our aluminium J channels. Furthermore most insurance companies demand 6mm silver mirror glass in commercial situations for liability insurance. Residential clients can and do use 4mm silver mirror glass and it is our best seller for this purpose. However it is our recommendation to use 6mm silver in sizes 2440mm x1220mm (8ft x 4ft) for the added strength. 4mm mirrors without safety backing can be fitted with mirror adhesive or 4mm safety backed with holes and mirror screws.
Safety backing film is a film applied to the reverse of the mirrors to prevent injury from glass in the event of breakage. It is fully tested to BS EN 12600 class B2B for frontal impact. The broken mirror pieces stay stuck to the safety backing and do not end up on the floor reducing the chances of someone injuring themselves. If fitting mirrors with mirror adhesive then do not choose safety backing, as you need to ensure you are gluing the back of the mirror to the wall and not the safety backing film. The adhesive could cause the safety backing film to fail. If fitting with adhesive, the glue acts as a safety film if applied to the entire back surface of the mirror and is the mirror were to break, the pieces will stay stuck to the wall. Please be advised that if using adhesive, it is very strong and you will not be able to remove the mirrors without breaking them. Safety backed mirrors can be fitted with either J channels or holes and mirror screws.

Polished edges have been machine polished smooth. These are mandatory for safety and all our products apart from budget 3mm mirror come polished as standard. Left unpolished, the edges are sharp and rough and can have 1-2mm chips to the edge of the mirror.
Holes can be drilled for fitting your mirror or glass. Please choose the size of holes required - 7mm is standard for all mirror orders which include the chrome head fixing screws when you make your purchase. The holes are always 50mm from each corner or edge unless you specifically request otherwise. Please note screws are sent separately via the post when you make a mirror purchase with holes. We offer larger holes for wiring and fittings but over 50mm we consider this a cut out and charge accordingly.

Holes and notches can be cut out for electric sockets, light switches and fittings. Please note the corners of cut outs all have a 5mm radius (slightly curved). Information on how to measure or template for a cut out is in our guide to glass. It is critical this information is correct and the details you send us are in an easy to understand format. All our cut outs are done via CNC. To view tolerances and other practical issues when considering cut outs please visit our guide to glass.
We will not charge for templates if they arrive in good condition and on a 4mm thick material that is flat. We scan templates into our operating and cutting systems to ensure our in house manufacture is perfect first time. If you send us a paper template we charge £30 inclusive VAT to process this by hand onto 5mm corex and then scan the template into system. If the paper arrives broken or not in a suitable condition to work with we may ask you send this in again.

All our mirrors conform to EN1036-1 AND en1036-2 and are produced in factories with ISO 9001 certification. All safety backed mirrors conform to BS EN 12600 class B2B for frontal impact.

Our range of high specification mirror products offer excellent protection of the reflective silver layer without the need for the copper and lead used in the conventional manufacturing process.

 

These mirrors offer excellent resistance to natural atmospheric corrosion
Pilkington Optimirror is simply a brand name and is manufactured in the UK by Nippon Glass Company. Our standard mirror is supplied by AGC, the largest glass multinational in the world and St Gobain which is a large French multinational glass supplier and it is disingenuous to say that the quality of Pilkington's is greater than our standard mirror. We only market Pilkington Optimirror as it is available in a larger sheet size of required.

Our highest specification mirror is our low iron copper free anti corrosion mirrors which are imported from Japan. These are recommended for humid and wet environments like bathrooms.

Deliveries are made by a specialist fragile goods courier using specially equipped vehicles with a minimum charge of £45. We do not send mirrors or glass using standard couriers due to breakage.

The items are delivered with a single driver and for larger items they will require assistance off loading the mirrors or glass.

Our mirrors or glass are not packaged as it makes them safer to handle and less likely to break on the purpose made racks in the vans, it also allows you to check for damage immediately before signing for them. Please ensure you have somewhere safe to store them when they arrive until you hang them.
