Mirrors and splashbacks all have a paint backing that is there to protect the silver , print or design on the glass from peeling off.
The paint technology in this sector has advanced greatly over time but during the manufacture of bespoke mirrors the edges come under a great deal of stress when we polish or bevel them. To the eye they look fine but under a miscroscope there are lots of fractures and fissures that create weak points in the product.
These weak points are vulnerable to prolonged water ingress and especially aggressive cleaning products that tend to be used in kitchens and bathrooms. As such we stronly recommend that all mirrors in such locations are sealed around the edges to create a thin protective membrane that will stop water and such cleaning products ever actually getting to the back edge of the mirror or glass and hence the weak spots are protected.
If this is done correctly your products will last many years without any chance of deteriotation on the edges.
