How To Install Demister Pads During Mirror Installation

Step 1 - Electrical detail

Wiring: ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN TO COMPLY WITH CURRENT WIRING REGULATIONS.

CRL Heated Mirror Pads should be connected to the lighting circuit so that they are activated when the light is switched on, or to a separate switch if preferred. The circuit must be protected by a 5Amp fuse or circuit breaker at the distribution board.

The wires are coloured in accordance with the following code: BROWN – LIVE OR POSITIVE, BLUE – NEUTRAL OR NEGATIVE

Wiring must be covered and inaccessible in compliance with relevant safety standards.

NOTE: This product must be fitted by a qualified electrician.
CRL Heated Mirror Pads are approved to international standards.
POWER RATING: 200W/m2
Low volt models (12 &24V) CRL Heated Mirror pads installed outside zone 1 (see image in step 2) can be supplied using a suitably rated and approved low voltage
transformer - for example low voltage lighting transformers. However, CRL Heated Mirror Pads installed in zone 1 must be supplied by a SELV isolating transformer with the source being outside zone 1.

Multiple pads: Several Pads fitted to a single mirror should be wired in parallel. Care must be taken to ensure that the power supply is sufficient to take the load. Pads must not overlap as this could cause hotspots and possible damage to the mirror.

Cable Length: CRL Heated Mirror Pads are supplied with 1m 0.75mm2 double insulated cable. In general, this cannot be lengthened, as there are variable factors that could increase the rating of the cable and render the installation unsafe. If a longer lead is required on site, in accordance with best practice, a heavier duty cable (i.e. lighting cable) can be connected via an approved junction box, which should be inaccessible. All metal parts surrounding the mirror, e.g. the frame, must be earthed to comply with the IEE Wiring regulations - Seventeenth edition
(BS7671:2008) or equivalent national wiring regulations.

Step 2 - Attaching the mirror

Attaching to the Mirror
CRL Heated Mirror Pads should be mounted directly onto the mirror back.

1. Cut out a recess in the wall to house the terminal moulding so that the CRL Heated Mirror Pad is flush when fitted.

2. Mark the back of the mirror to indicate where the CRL Heated Mirror Pad is to be fitted.

3. Peel the protective release paper from the front of the CRL Heated Mirror Pad.

4. Position one edge of the CRL Heated Mirror Pad onto the back of the mirror holding the opposite edge away from the mirror.

5. Apply pressure evenly over the full pad as it is gradually lowered onto the mirror back.

6. Continue until the CRL Heated Mirror Pad is completely flat on the mirror back with no air bubbles.

7. Fix CRL Heated Mirror Pad mirror assembly to wall.

NOTE: White patches that may appear beneath the film are “delamination”. This is caused by the ingress of air between the insulation and element as a result of handling and neither affects the operation of CRL Heated Mirror Pads nor is it detrimental in any way.
IMPORTANT: CRL Heated Mirror Pads should not be used if the mirror
is damaged. To avoid damage to the mirror, and in common with normal
practice, the following points must be adhered to:
1. Ensure the wall is firm, flat, level and dry.
2. Mirror must be flat across its entire surface at all times to prevent it
cracking.
3. Screws must not be over-tightened and must be adjusted evenly to
ensure the mirror is flat.
4. Never rest anything across the mirror surface that will prevent the heat
dissipating fully

5. If the CRL Heated Mirror Pad is to be installed behind irregular shaped mirrors with sharp internal or external corners, or with holes or other cut outs within the mirror, or if the mirror has been weakened in any way, extra care must be taken when positioning the CRL Heated Mirror Pad not to create any excess stress. CRL Heated Mirror Pads must not be cut or pierced as this will damage the insulation, rendering It unsafe. As the ambient room temperature rises, so will the surface temperature of the mirror. CRL Heated Mirror Pads must not be accessible once installed.

All CRL Heated Mirror Pads are manufactured to the required standards and tested under strict quality controls. However, it is advisable to check the resistance reading for the pad supplied before fixing to the mirror.
